How To Make Your Tires Last Longer

Tire Rotation

Have you ever wondered about how to make your tires last longer on the roads near Phoenix? You’re not alone. After all, a new set of tires can be a significant expense, especially if you haven’t budgeted for the repair.  Drivers with an interest in long-life tires know that these components are arguably the most important safety features on your vehicle–even in a high-tech Mercedes-Benz. Thankfully, it’s easy to maximize their value and lifespan by adding a few simple steps to your vehicle care and maintenance routine.

Tips for a Longer Lasting Tires

  • Check your tire pressure monthly, and more often when you’re dealing with extreme weather. Under normal circumstances, tires can deflate by up to one psi per month. Significant changes in air temperature could cause the air in your tires to contract or expand.
  • Rotate your tires regularly. An interval of roughly 5,000 miles is usually appropriate for front-wheel drive vehicles, but an AWD model distributes its power differently, and may require tire rotation more often. (If you know how to change a tire, then you can likely handle your next rotation at home.)
  • Balancing your wheels is just as important as rotating your tires, so you should make sure that this step is performed after every check-up. If your vehicle’s weight isn’t evenly distributed, one or more of your tires will wear down faster than the others.
  • Having your alignment checked at least twice a year can also help to prevent uneven wear. If you’re noticing a shaking steering wheel, or your vehicle pulls to one side or the other, misaligned tires are likely to blame. Checking your alignment becomes especially important after hitting a pothole or a curb.
